I believe that as people, we need stimulation in life. This stimulation can come in many forms but the gist of it is always the same:

It's all about finding someone/something and having a brand new experience.

This need propels us to innovate and improve ourselves constantly, which leads us to learn and refine skills to help us adapt or stay ahead.

In this day and age, information is more readily available than ever. From a time where people scoured the lands for days just to find books and mentors just to learn lessons, we find ourselves in a time where a simple Google search brings upon easily 1000 pieces of advice and lessons.

So begs the question: Which advice works best for me?

My honest answer is this:

Going from a lonely, insecure and uninspired guy to becoming a professional dating coach, I've been on both sides of the spectrum. My learning days saw me go through a good 2 years of digesting information. I constantly learned new lessons everyday. And this was my problem. I learned and knew so much that I could not possibly apply everything I learned. I learned from so many schools of thought that one contradicted the other. I'd see a situation and I'll know what to do but because of my heightened awareness, it led me to think up a ton of crazy "what-if" scenarios which scared me and sabotaged my success.

An Italian Experience

One day in November 2008, I decided to drop all the knowledge I had and just let LIFE itself teach me. From that time up till February 2009, I saw myself going out 7 days a week. I would go to the clubs 3-5 times a week, hit the streets with that same frequency and hang out with many new people I met from everywhere.

I met close to 200 people in that span of 4 months. I met lovers, I met successful businessmen, I met conmen, I met pimps, I met friends, I met mentors, mentees, I met gangsters, corrupt civil servants and the list goes on. I did not just learn to be confident around Women and people, I also learned a ton of valuable life lessons. I even found myself in Italy where I met members of the Mafia.

I paid 200 Euros for them to take me out to the streets for 3 days to learn the way of the Mafia life, learning everything from shoplifting to pick-pocketing to orchestrating a con-job. Really, the best way to learn how the world works is to actually live in it. I always believe in the philosophy of "Quality over Quantity". I apply this concept in all aspects of my life and when it comes to learning, I look at quality learning experiences over quantity learning experiences. I really believe that it’s better to MASTER skills that are VITAL to your own personal goals than to learn everything there is out there. It makes perfect sense. If you were a fat guy and you wanted to get into shape, there’s no point using a Mass Gainer just because it’s the best product on the planet.

Mastery of a skill is all about doing as little as possible to achieve optimal results. It's about working smart over working hard so that you have more time to really live the life you want. To achieve mastery of something, it is important to have a quality learning experience.

Quite simply, a quality learning experience is a holistic combination of:

Growing up in Singapore, I am no stranger to meritocracy. I always grew up being around people who pushed me to study hard. And I really thought that was the key to succeeding in life. So it comes as no surprise that I was at the lowest point in my life when I dropped out of a private business school when I was 17. All I had was an atrocious O level examinations certificate and myself. But it was all I needed to become who I am today, more successful and so much happier than almost anyone I know.

I gave it much thought and I realized that what most people and myself really want is really not so much to become a millionaire. It’s really to live LIKE a millionaire. Having the freedom to do stuff they want to do as and when they want to. The truth is, you don’t need a million dollars to live that kind of life. And it is often when they are mentally and emotionally free and happy, that they produce some of the most inspiring ideas that help shape our world.
